Pier Form Work

The J.J. Hospital flyover in Mumbai, is a bench mark of engineering quality and architectural design. The challenge : to design and develop Pier formwork, for an 80 Ton single pour of concrete for pier heights upto 8.5m. 70 Piers were to be cast with shortest possible assembly and striking time.

The architectural detail required a flaring shape with a smooth grooved, unbroken finish without joint lines on the cast structure of the Pier. Using in-house technology and expertise, Pranav met the design and architectural requirements of the U.K.

Based consultant for this unique flyover. Formwork was designed using about 400 elements, in two halves. The entire surface was lined with a specially formed rubber to obtain the designed surface finish. Hydraulic systems were incorporated to assemble and strike the formwork accurately and with high efficiency. The result :The assembly time for each mould casting was about 4 hours and striking time was about 2 hours per pier casting. With all 70 Piers comfortably cast using just a single construction system by Pranav.
