RETAINING WALL & COLUMNS

For the 6m high columns and wall for the reactor building at Kudankulam, a specialized formwork was required. The reactor building was to have a wall with a diaphragm, which permitted no tie-rods in the construction system.

For this special construction which was to be cast in three stages and at high speed, Pranav designed a composite construction system with a suitable back-up frame. The system lent itself to very fast dismantling using a lift and shift system with the help of crane.

As a result all requirements of the project especially casting speed requirements, were comfortably achieved.
